GSL's Update

Since the last edition of "The Woggle" we have held our Quiz Night, our 80th Birthday Party and our Fireworks evening. Members of the Group have received top awards, been camping, held sleepovers, taken part in Remembrance Day Parade and visited the Civic Offices, St Mary's Church, the Police Station, the Fire Station along with the many activities that take place during their section meetings.

Chief Scout's Silver Awards.
Well done to Mani Campbell from Mars Pack and Simba Bailey, Dan Cassidy, James Lambert, Matthew Compton & Luke Wells all of Saturn Pack who received their awards from Ian Stott the District Commissioner for Havant. Mani is the first Cub from Mars Pack to receive this award since the Pack re-opened in 2008.

Chief Scout's Bronze Award
Joel Masson, Henry Jameson, George Charlton and Harvey Smart all completed the Outdoor, Fitness, Global, Creative, Friendship and Promise Challenges.

Ian congratulated all of the Beavers and Cubs on receiving their awards and thanked the Leaders and Parents for their help and support.

Can You Help Us on November 21st
We are asking for about 6 people to help us between 12:30 and 2:30 on Saturday 21st November as we move the books from Mengham back to the HQ. If you can spare some time to help us please contact Phil Blosse on 92463401 - Thank You

ACE Win Quiz
Well done to ACE who won our Quiz Night with 72 points, just 3 points ahead of a new team called "Half Man Half Quiz". Many thanks to everyone who took part, to Mandy, Fiona & Jo for preparing another great meal and to Anne & Eddie Ault our scorers and to Billy Ault who once again was a superb question setter / master. The event raised over £900.

Thanks Badge for Billy
It was a great pleasure to present a Thanks Badge to Billy Ault at the end of our quiz night. This was the 14th year that Billy had set the questions for our quiz. The first time was in 1994 when he was a Venture Scout.

100 Club Results
Congratulations to Peter Rowson, Lesley Rowson, and Shona Hunter who won £25 in September, to Maureen Spencer who won the quarterly £50 prize.

The October winners of £25 were Ewan Simpson, Tracey Knight and Mark Standing.

Camps and Things
It may be wet and windy, but that does not stop the outdoor activities.

The Scouts from Shark Troop held their first troop camp with a back to basics theme.

The Sixers and Seconders joined others from Hampshire for a weekend camp near Winchester on a theme of looking after themselves.

5 Scouts and Explorers camped with 200 others in camp near Fareham for a Jamboree selection weekend.

Lions win Great Escape
24 Hayling Scouts took part in the District Night Exercise walking 9 miles around Harting Down and completing a number of challenges.

The event was won by Lion Troop who completed the route in record time and successfully met all of the challenges.

80th Birthday Party
Over 100 people joined in with our 80th Birthday party celebrations. The evening included games and a disco but the younger party-goers seemed to enjoy running around outside, whilst the older ones seemed quite happy chatting over a drink and eating the food on offer.

Well done to Dreadnought, who organised a great evening.

Cubs Sleepover
It was not only the Scouts who continued to camp in the Autumn. All three of our Cub Packs have held sleepovers, which provide a good opportunity for a fun weekend away from home.

Saturn Pack
spent a weekend at a Scout HQ in West Leigh being trained as the next generation of Spies. To complete the NRUTAS spy training team each of the cubs had to demonstrate their skills in physical fitness, making and breaking codes, observation, communication, initiative and entertaining.

Jupiter Pack
were taken to local shops to buy food to cook for their evening meal and they made their own Pizza's including the dough base and home made chips.

After dinner they went for a "Spook Walk" with the Explorers taking on the role of ghosts before playing some games and watching a film. The halloween theme continued with pumpkin lanterns.

Following an early Breakfast the Cubs then completed an assault course before going home.

Mars Pack
cooked their own tea of Spaghetti Bolognaise and Apple Crumble.

An assault course proved to be great fun again and the Cubs also enjoyed the games and video.

And That's Not All!
The camping and sleepover season is not yet over with Redwood Beavers and Lion Troop both having events planned for later this month.

Fireworks Evening
So, there was a bit of rain but it stopped and did not prevent over 70 families enjoying the Fireworks display. Thank you to all of you who came along.

Remembrance Day
Well done and thanks to the 60 Scouts, Explorers and Leaders who joined this years parade. The flags were carried by Joe Spellor (Lions) and Matthew Kenny (Explorers) with the wreath being laid by Cameron MacCallum (Shark Troop).

Jan Qualifies as Pool Lifeguard
Congratulations to Jan Allgood (Mars Pack Leader) who passed the Pool Lifeguard qualification.
