What a way to celebrate 100 Years

Over 130 members of the Hayling Scout group re-made their Scout Promise as part of the Centenary Celebrations somewhere in the UK. The Scouts and Explorers joined in with 4000 others at the Hampshire h007 Jamboree in the New Forest, whilst Alistair Harris and Jorden Reed were attending the World Scout Jamboree with 40,000 others in Essex and Alan Oakes and Julie Rigden were camping on Brownsea Island, the birth place of Scouting in 1907. Our Beavers and Cubs started their day at 06:45 with a coach journey to Emsworth where they joined others from Havant in a special event, before travelling on to the New Forest for a day of activity and fun at the h007 Jamboree.

The photograph shows the release of 100 doves which concluded the celebrations in Emsworth. Across the world, over 26 million members of the Scout Association remade their promise as part of Sunrise Day!

Mud does not stop h007
We all arrived in the New Forest on Sunday 29th to find lots of mud! This was the result of the New Forest Show the previous week and meant that we had to change original camping areas for the 4500 campers.

By Sunday evening however everyone was settled in and although we were still towing vehicles out of the mud, the activities began on Monday morning. Activities included climbing, abseiling, ice skating, skiing, driving, quad bikes, laser games, clay pigeon shooting, diving, cooking, craft and many more. The highlight for the Scouts was Dragon Boating on Dorney Lake near Eton, which will host the Rowing Regatta in the 2012 Olympics.

And After the Camp
When we returned from the h007 Jamboree, we were not alone! 23 Cubs, Scouts and Leaders from Ghana who had been camping with us in the New Forest wanted to spend a few extra days in Hampshire and so we hosted them in our HQ. We spent time with them on a tour of Hayling, a day in Portsmouth and a BBQ with members of Hayling Scouts.

Thanks Sam
We are sorry to lose Sam Mill from our Group Development Team. Sam who has now taken on the responsibility of running one of the Brownie Packs on Hayling has taken a rest from her Scouting involvement (although as a Parent she does not escape!). We would like to thank Sam for her tremendous work in gaining sponsorhsip for the Group and wish her the best of luck with her Brownies.

The Autumn term is always busy for both the sections and for our Group Development Team.

For Beavers & Cubs

We have again been invited to join the congregation of St Andrew's Church for their Harvest Festival. As in previous years this will be for the Beavers and Cubs, with the Scouts and Explorers taking part in Remembrance Day in November.

Full uniform to be worn and also a food item for the festival is always welcome.

Thanks to HIBC

We would like to thank the Hayling Island Businessmen's Club for their very generous donation towards our Centenary Activities. The Scouts always enjoy helping with the BBQ evening (probably because it involves food!).

And Also to Debbie Hick

Debbie organised a ladies Charity Evening and chose the 3rd Hayling Scouts as one of the beneficiaries. Thank you Debbie for your support of our Group and your very generous donation.

New Look Web Site.

We have changed the style of our Website. We made the changes to better incorporate some of the ideas given to us, to upgrade the technology we are using to better support today's computers and because it is always good for a refresh!

If you have received the "Woggle" via hardcopy but have access to the Internet, why not take a look at our site where you will find details of our activities and more photographs!

It is still at "www.haylingscouts.org.uk"

Cubs Prepare for Camp

Our Cubs are making their Pirate Costumes in readiness for their Pirate Camp later this month. Being pirates of course means that they will probably get very wet, helped by raft building and other water based activities.

Scouts & Explorers help at Horse Show

Our Scouts and Explorers helped with a local horse show again this year acting as Fence Marshalls and helping the organisers in many ways. Well Done!
