Weekend Challenge for Sharks Patrol Leaders

Report Date 21/04/14

Being a Patrol Leader in the Scout section includes the responsibility for looking after younger Scouts and assisting them with their own progression, along with taking a more active role in the life of a Scout Troop.

It is good to be able to provide something different to these Patrol Leaders and over the Easter Weekend they were camping in West Sussex and were set a series of challenges.

For example they were blindfolded on the journey and therefore unable to see where they were travelling and then challenged to work out exactly where they were. Before leaving they were asked to sort out "essential" equipment from "nice ot have" and on arrival realised that only their choice of essential equipment had been taken. They then had to recover this equipment from an island using only ropes and poles before selecting one of three sealed containers that offered a variety of sleeping arrangements.

In the event with a combination of Hammocks, Bivvi Bags and a small tent they both survided and enjoyed the weekend, which also provided an opportunity for the Leaders to help them develop their own leadership and teamwork styles.
